Mahatma Gandhi : Know about our Father of the Nation’s History, Movement

Mahatma Gandhi : Mahatma Gandhi was such a person in Indian history, who fought till his last breath for the interest of the country. He was such a leader of the freedom movement who, following the path of non-violence, shook the foundation of the British rule and forced him to leave the country. He is also called the father of Indian freedom struggle.

Bapu was instrumental in ending the cruelty of the British rule and freeing India from the slavery of the British. His policy of truth and non-violence gained international fame. He not only raised his voice against the British government in a non-violent way but also led many movements.

Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi’s full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. His father’s name was Karamchandra Gandhi, who was the Diwan of a princely state of Kathiawada during the British Raj.

Mahatma Gandhi was married to Kasturba Gandhi at the age of just 13. Gandhi’s life was full of difficulties. His father passed away after 2 years of marriage. They had their first child just a year after the death of their father and after some time he died.

However, even after one difficult situation after another in life, Bapu did not give up and continued his studies. After receiving his high school degree from Ahmedabad in 1887, he went to Britain in 1888 to study law.

International Non-violence Day

This time we are going to celebrate the 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The United Nations General Assembly on 15 June 2007 declared 2 October as the International Day of Nonviolence. On this day the President and the Prime Minister pay homage at the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat. Let us tell you that Mahatma Gandhi cremated at Raj Ghat in Delhi.

Mahatma Gandhi’s Movement

– In 1906, Mahatma Gandhi launched the first Satyagraha against the Trasval Asiatic Registration Act.
– Gandhiji launched the Salt Satyagraha on 12 March 1930 against the British monopoly on salt, in which he marched for 24 days from Sabarmati Ashram near Ahmedabad to Dandi village.
– Apart from this, Gandhiji also started many movements like Dalit Movement, Quit India Movement.
